Belgrade, November 12, 2009 -- Hard to Treat Diseases, Inc. (HTDS:PK) http://www.htdsmedical.com/ announced today that it will shortly appoint Dr. Sabera Ruzdijic as a Medical Advisor to HTDS.
Dr. Sabera Ruzdijic is a well-respected scientist. Dr. Ruzdijic leads a group of researchers engaged on Cancer Project in Department of Neurobiology, Institute for Biological Research "Sinisa Stankovic", University of Belgrade, Serbia (SABI group). The group introduced a novel therapeutic approach in treatment of the non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), the most common form of cancer in human population.
Dr. Nikola Tanic, Chief Project Scientist, said There: "Dr. Ruzdijic is a professional highly respected in the medical research circles. is no doubt that the appointment of Dr. Sabera Ruzdijic to HTDS will be valuable to our whole organization. "
The objective of Dr. Ruzdijic's research project was to measure the frequency of gene mutations and chromosomal aberrations (frequency of genomic instability) in genomes of patients with NSCLC, and to identify genes that are altered during NSCLC promotion and progression. The scientists expect that some of these genes might show to be good prognostic biomarkers for NSCLC patients, and enable the application of personalized treatments.
On the other hand, the group established new therapeutic modalities in overcoming multi-drug resistance (MDR), a major factor in the failure of standard chemotherapy. Their method includes the use of classical chemotherapeutic drugs, such as doxorubicin, and a new experimental drug sulfinosine. The effectiveness of this therapy is shown in resistant cell line and has to be examined in experimental animals before trials on humans, so that obtained results has to be considered as "experimental".
Experimental data provide the following beneficial effects of the therapy:
